Jeremiah S. Black letters, 1860-1877.

The first letter, from the Attorney General's office, dated July 24, 1860, is an official judicial opinion addressed to the Postmaster General, Joseph Holt, in the case of letters which the Baltimore post office refused to deliver on the grounds that the addressee, Emory & Co., was fictitious. The plaintiff in the case was E.M. Carr. The second letter, dated Sept. 3, 1877, is a personal note to R.E. Monaghan conveying regards to Judge Strickland; originally a financial contribution in Strickland's honor was enclosed.
